Lachlan Murdoch and David Cordani are senior executives in different industries: Murdoch works in media, while Cordani’s career centres on healthcare. The reliable public sources reviewed for this article do not establish a family relationship or direct business partnership between them.
Their current titles also need careful distinction. As of October 20, 2026, Murdoch is executive chair and chief executive officer of Fox Corporation and chair of News Corp. Cordani is executive chair of The Cigna Group, having stepped down as CEO in July 2026.
Is There a Documented Connection Between Them?
No direct connection emerged from the official biographies, corporate leadership records, and announcements reviewed. These sources document separate careers and do not identify a shared venture or professional partnership between Murdoch and Cordani.
That finding has limits: corporate biographies cannot establish whether two people have ever met or spoken privately. However, there is no supported basis here for presenting them as relatives, collaborators, or business partners.
The useful comparison concerns their responsibilities and career histories. Holding senior positions at large companies is a professional similarity; it does not, by itself, establish a relationship.
Lachlan Murdoch’s Career in Media
According to Fox Corporation’s official biography, Murdoch oversees its news, sports, and entertainment portfolio. His experience includes television operations, publishing, investment, and leadership roles within the businesses that preceded today’s Fox Corporation.
From 2000 to 2005, he served as deputy chief operating officer of the company then known as News Corporation. His responsibilities included its US television stations and publishing assets, and he held roles as chairman of Fox Television Stations and publisher of the New York Post.
Murdoch later became executive chairman of 21st Century Fox in 2015. Fox’s biography also credits him with helping establish Fox Corporation as a standalone public company through its separation from 21st Century Fox.
Corporate restructuring matters when following media executives because company names, assets, and responsibilities can change. Error Magazine’s profile of Safra Catz and John Stankey provides another example through Stankey’s leadership at WarnerMedia and AT&T’s subsequent separation of that business.
Murdoch’s role at News Corp is separate from his Fox responsibilities. News Corp’s current board page identifies him as chair and Robert Thomson as chief executive; Murdoch should therefore not be described as CEO of both companies.
David Cordani’s Cigna Career and 2026 Transition
Cordani joined Cigna in 1991 and progressed through several senior positions. According to The Cigna Group’s board biography, these included chief operating officer, president of Cigna HealthCare, and senior vice president for customer segments and marketing.
The same biography records his CEO tenure as beginning in 2009 and ending in July 2026. He became board chair in January 2022, combining that position with his executive leadership before the later succession.
On March 3, 2026, The Cigna Group announced that Brian Evanko would succeed Cordani as CEO effective July 1. Cordani would become executive chair of the board, and the company’s current board biography confirms that transition took place.
This makes older descriptions of Cordani as Cigna’s serving CEO outdated. His move retained a senior board role while transferring the chief executive position to Evanko.
How Media Leadership Differs From Healthcare Leadership
Murdoch’s work involves companies producing and distributing news, sports, entertainment, and information. Cordani’s experience involves health benefits and health services, where corporate decisions concern areas such as coverage, pharmacy services, and care delivery.
The Cigna Group’s capabilities page identifies two divisions: Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth Health Services. Cigna Healthcare provides health benefit solutions, while Evernorth’s activities include pharmacy benefits, specialty pharmacy, and care services.
This is corporate healthcare leadership, which differs from campaigning or fundraising for health causes. Our article on Karen Lynch and Elizabeth Taylor explores that distinction by comparing Lynch’s insurance and healthcare career with Taylor’s HIV/AIDS advocacy.
Viewed together, Murdoch and Cordani illustrate different settings for executive decision-making. Their industries provide a basis for comparison, but their titles alone cannot establish a shared leadership style, personal motivation, or business relationship.
Why Their Current Titles Matter
Chair and chief executive are separate positions, even when one person holds both. The chair leads the board, while the CEO leads executive management; the precise division of duties depends on the company’s governance arrangements.
Murdoch currently combines those positions at Fox, but holds the chair position at News Corp. Cordani’s July 2026 transition separated his executive chair role from Cigna’s CEO position.
The comparison therefore requires both a company name and a date. A title that accurately described an executive earlier in their career may no longer explain their present responsibilities.
