John Collison and Al Pacino: Did They Found Stripe Together?

Checked on 24 September 2026 (UTC).

John Collison and Al Pacino did not found Stripe together. An article on Celebrity Posts names Pacino alongside Collison in a sentence about starting Stripe. The mistake concerns Pacino’s name: Stripe identifies John’s cofounder as his brother Patrick Collison.

Who founded Stripe?

Stripe’s company information lists John Collison as cofounder and president, and Patrick Collison as cofounder and CEO. The Celebrity Posts article also says elsewhere that John built Stripe with Patrick, contradicting its sentence that names Pacino.

A little about John Collison and Al Pacino

John Collison grew up in Ireland with his brother Patrick. The brothers later built Stripe together; John’s public career is centered on technology and online payments. In a Stripe Sessions conversation, Patrick confirms that he and John grew up in Ireland.

Al Pacino grew up in the Bronx, New York. The American Film Institute’s profile describes him as an only child who studied acting at the Actors Studio. He became known for performances in The Godfather, Serpico and Scent of a Woman.

Is there another connection?

No reliable public source reviewed for this article establishes a business or professional collaboration between Collison and Pacino. There is one similar name to keep separate: the AFI’s record for Danny Collins lists Pacino as the actor who played Danny Collins. That fictional character is not John Collison, and the film does not prove why people search for the two names together.
